Thaïs Perkins is the owner of Reverie Books, an independent bookstore that gives Austin’s young LGBTQ+ readers a safe space to let their guard down.
“I think in order to continue living in Texas, I had to do this. I could not stay here and not just devote every ounce of energy I can to the community.” —
“I accidentally booked a trip to Mexico during Independent Bookstore Day and I left a part-timer and my wife in charge of the bookstore on what I did not understand was going to be the biggest day of the year — way bigger than Christmas. And I was sitting in Mexico watching the transactions coming up on the phone in the Square Dashboard at every minute for the entire day. So I could check up on them and I could ask them how things were going if they had a question about a transaction. I was able to collaborate with them from Mexico. I was very versatile and hopeful that way.
Square makes it easy to work remotely. Square makes it so that I can live my life and be with my kids and follow along with what's happening in the store and answer questions as needed. It helps make our lives livable.”
