Summer 2024 industry outlook
Leaders are streamlining front- and back-of-house operations and stocking up on supplies in anticipation of more in-person guests this summer.
Summer tends to be the busiest season for restaurants. However, this year, owners expect even more guests, which could translate to higher sales volumes. Despite the anticipated surge, the vast majority (72%) said they felt very or extremely prepared entering the summer season.
Restaurant leaders are expecting to serve smaller groups compared to solo diners and bigger parties this summer. They are also planning for more diners later in the day and evening, which means staffing schedules and menus will need to adjust.
One in four respondents said they plan to increase their recruiting and hiring efforts as a result. And nearly half (44%) said they plan to stock up on ingredients to avoid supply issues.
