When it comes to our business and how we move with our community everything we do is with intention.
Listen 🎧 : Jackie talks about how WonderPuff connects with their community online and in-person.
is a Durham, North Carolina based cotton candy business. Owner Jackie Morin's Ariana Grande and Doja Cat inspired candy has made translating the brand's ethos between the business's social presence, online store, and brick and mortar shop seamless.
Community is in the business's roots. When Morin first launched the business alongside her husband, they started with a Kickstarter campaign. She was hesitant at first, pointing to a common feeling of shame many business owners have around asking for help from the community when it comes to taking on funding. Looking back, she is grateful a crowdfunding tool like Kickstarter helped them start building WonderPuff. Admist a burgeoning Black Lives Matter movement, she saw a shift in how people on the internet were consuming information. The impact digital communities were able to make was significant. Inspired in part by this, the duo focused on connecting to people through online and social channels. Despite having few followers at the time, they hit their goal amount with the week. Today, many of those initial contributors are still part of their community today.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, the business went fully online, pushing them to create an experience for their customers who would continue supporting them. Wonderpuff's brand is so vibrant online, Morin wanted the experience to match for her customers in person. "When they do have their package delivered to their door, it feels like more of a gift than just a package." said Morin "I've seen the way other small business represent with their packaging and how they design their packaging. It entices people more to want to order online rather than get it down the street and that's inspired us to do the same"
